Swaps & notes

Easy swaps

  • Use almond or sunflower seed butter.
  • Replace flax with finely chopped nuts.
  • Add dried cherries or mini chocolate chips to the oat mixture.

Cook notes

  • Natural peanut butter can work but may produce softer bars; stir it thoroughly first.
  • Use quick oats for a softer texture, not instant oatmeal packets.

Storage

Refrigerate up to 10 days or freeze up to 2 months. They soften at warm room temperature.

Questions

Are these gluten-free?

They are when made with certified gluten-free oats.

Can I reduce the honey?

A little, but the bars rely on it for binding. Reduce by no more than 2 tablespoons.

Why are they crumbling?

The mixture was not packed firmly enough or the nut butter was unusually dry.
